The First 50 - A Community Play

9th and 10th November 2018

The First 50 - A Community Play

In 2018 Chorus Theatre presented a brand new community play The First 50, telling the stories of the “famous” fifty soldiers from the Coalville and Hugglescote area who fought in the Great War.

The play was written and directed by Andrew McWilliam and was based on the research by Michael Kendrick in his book Fifty Good Men and True.

A cast of five actors brought the stories of these men to life using music, songs and letters written by the soldiers. Alongside this the recorded voices of children from Hugglescote Community Primary School gave a short biography of each soldier, and a choir from the school performed a specially written song.

The play was performed at St John the Baptist Church in Hugglescote over the remembrance weekend in November 2018 with support from North West Leicestershire District Council.
