 The Famous Fifty

The first WW1 civilian volunteers to land in France

Welcome to the story of the Famous Fifty.  Here you will find information on the fifty men, their route to war and their battles. Below, you will find the names of those who lost their lives, and those who managed to survive. We hope that amongst these pages you will discover why these fifty young men from North West Leicestershire became known as the Famous Fifty. If you are related to any of them, please get in touch using the contact page as we would love to hear from you.
